To help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health of our campus community, the University is expanding our testing for spring semester 2021.
On January 5, the COVID Check App status of all UC students will turn “Yellow,” signifying limited access to campus facilities. All students who have in-person classes or labs on our campus or are clinical students — including College Credit Plus (CCP) students who are 18 years of age or older — must get tested in order to obtain a Green Pass on their UC COVID Check App prior to coming to campus for the first time. You should also have a Green Pass if you are coming to campus to work or use resources like the library or computer concourse.
All faculty members will monitor each student's COVID Check app for a green pass as the student enters any on-campus teaching or lab spaces. The green pass means the student has used the daily app and has received a negative Return to Campus PCR test for COVID-19, either through on-campus testing or by uploading a negative PCR test.
Testing on UC Campuses
Please note that you must get tested within seven days before returning to campus. Results will be automatically uploaded to your COVID Check App within 48-72 hours. If there is a positive test a Red Pass is issued, and a member of UC’s health care response team personally connects with the user within 24-48 hours to provide additional information and next steps.
Alternative Testing Events in the Community – Off-Site Testing
You can find information on testing sites in the community at the links below or you can go to the provider of your choice. Please note that it must be a PCR test (rather than an antigen test), and it must be taken within seven days before you return to campus. You should upload the test results to email@example.com.
A negative PCR test results will be accepted within one week of return to campus for face to face classes or access to campus facilities. When you send an email to Uccovidcheck@ucmail.uc.edu include the word "Exemption" in the subject line and attach the lab result to the email. Allow 48 – 72 hours for processing. Students should use only their UC email to submit their result and include their full name, date of birth and UCID M-numbers.

- Ohio Department of Health – https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/testing-ch-centers (These sites may require insurance or direct payment.)
- For regional campus students only: Students seeking exemptions from testing for any reason should refer to the Alternative Testing form, found at https://med.uc.edu/landing-pages/university-health/coronavirus/testing/alternative-testing-form. These exemptions will be verified by our COVID Watch nurses.
Students Under the Age of 18
- Students under the age of 18 before Jan. 25, 2021 will be automatically given green passes, as long they do not live in UC Housing.
- Students under 18 must still use COVID Check App daily with parental consent before using.
Students Residing in UC Housing
Regional campus students residing in UC Housing must follow UC Housing rules, which specify being tested on Main Campus only. Return to campus COVID-19 testing will be required of all students moving in or moving back to University Housing at the time of their return, as well as non-residential students participating in on-campus activities.
On-campus return testing will be offered throughout the move-back period, extending from Jan. 6-24. This testing will be offered from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. each day (except Monday, Jan. 18). Testing will take place in the basketball courts of the Campus Recreation Center.
Students moving into or back to University Housing for spring term will need to make a reservation. Upon moving back, students will be required to be tested for COVID-19 on the day of their return to campus. Testing will be provided on campus at no charge to students, and the test itself requires about 5 minutes, so it is fast, free and easy.
Testing will consist of the highly sensitive viral test known as PCR. Results will be back within 48-72 hours. While students await their test results, they are required to follow state and university public health protocols related to mask wearing, enhanced social distancing, hand hygiene and more.

For Clifton Students: Register for Return to Campus COVID Testing
Spring Semester students who are non-residential but who take part in on-campus activities on Uptown Campus will also need to make an appointment for free, on-campus COVID-19 testing. Plan to get tested at least three days before any on-campus activities you might be planning – whether that’s a class, lab, work, research, exercise, dining or recreation. Once tested, you will receive results within 48-72 hours. Negative test results will be emailed. Once you have a negative test result in Return to Campus testing, your “Yellow Pass” will transition to “Green,” removing the campus access restrictions. If your Return to Campus COVID test is positive, your COVID Check App will immediately turn to a "Red Pass" as results return from Wild Health Laboratories. You will subsequently be personally contacted by a member of UC’s health care response team to provide you additional information and next steps.
Along with testing, healthy behaviors are important to preventing COVID-19 viral transmission and spread. When healthy behaviors are consistently and conscientiously practiced, the risk to the entire community is significantly reduced. These include:
- Social distancing (required on UC’s campus)
- Facial coverings (required on UC’s campus)
- Hand and surface hygiene and cleaning (required on UC’s campus)
- Staying home when ill (required of all members of the campus community)
Additional mandatory surveillance testing will be required monthly during the spring semester. More information and dates will be coming soon.
