Score Exemptions

English Guided Self Placement

Students who meet any of the following criteria do not need to complete the English Guided Self Placement:

  • 18 or higher on the ACT Combined English & Writing or English portion.
  • 480 or higher on the SAT Evidence based Reading and Writing portion.
  • 3 or higher on the AP English Language or English Literature Exam.
  • Cincinnatus Scholarship competition participant.
  • Transfer credit for English 1001.

ALEKS PPL (Math Placement Assessment)

Students who meet any of the following criteria do not need to complete the ALEKS PPL:

ACT Math Scores:

  • 22 or higher and going into a program which requires MATH1008, STAT1031 or STAT1034.
  • 25 or higher and going into a program which requires MATH1021.
  • 26 or higher and going into a program which requires MATH1044 or MATH1022.
  • 29 or higher and going into a program which requires MATH1061.

SAT Math Scores:

  • 520 or higher and going into a program which requires MATH1008, STAT1031 or STAT1034.
  • 650 or higher and going into a program which requires MATH1021.
  • 670 or higher and going into a program which requires MATH1044 or MATH1022.
  • 710 or higher and going into a program which requires MATH1061.

Transfer Credit

  • Transfer credit for college level math course (unless further math is required for the program).

Please note: Your scores must be submitted to UC directly from ACT and or SAT.

How to Send Your Scores

You can request official ACT scores to be sent using the instructions below. It typically takes up to four weeks for scores to be sent from ACT/SAT, received by the University of Cincinnati and processed to your academic record.

Note: UC will need these scores on file before you are exempted from placement testing and are eligible to register for courses.

Instructions for Sending ACT Scores

  1. Login to your ACT account at www.actstudent.org
  2. Select the option to "Register, View Scores and More"
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to login to your account or to create an account
  4. Send to UC using the university code 3340
  5. Pay the additional fee

Instructions for Sending SAT Scores

  1. Follow instructions on the SAT "send my scores" page: http://sat.collegeboard.org/scores/send-sat-scores
  2. Send to UC using the university code 1833
  3. Pay the additional fee
